I've been experimenting with tiling geometry in 3DSMax, specifically with using Hair and Fur to make tiling organic textures. This wet marsh grass material is an example of the experiment so far. Why 3D geo in Max rather than 2D textures in Substance? Well, this way I can render at ultra high resolutions, easily move geo around and have access to the grooming brushes and turbosmooth tools. I'm still working out the kinks but getting closer to speeding things up.
